Why is this Passover different from all other Passovers? We know the answer to that question all too well. Most of us will be having Seders far smaller than we imagined. In these difficult times, when it can be challenging to get into the spirit of the holiday, we wanted to help. It is our privilege to provide you with this resource, which draws from some of the finest books that we have published. We hope that you enjoy this free download of The Kodesh Press Passover Reader. No matter how you are spending your Seder, this volume is designed for you—to be both educational and inspirational.
This Passover Reader is arranged according to how the holiday is observed, starting with bedikat chametz the night before, then on to the fifteen stages of Seder night, from Kaddesh all the way through Nirtzah. Many of the sections have one or two entries, with Maggid having a few extra.
This Passover Reader draws from a variety of sources. Some from classical Jewish figures like Rambam (Maimonides), Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, Samuel David Luzzatto, and Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik. It also includes inspirational articles written by Rabbis Ari Kahn, Gil Student, Gidon Rothstein, and Hayyim Angel. Other material, though sometimes technical, is also accessible and educational, such as Mitchell First’s articles about the unique words at the Seder and the original meaning of Arami oved avi.
Throughout this Reader, the voices are diverse, the focal points vary, and the writing styles differ. The final result is an edition that is cogent and unified, and capable of enhancing anyone’s Seder. It is our privilege to make this available to you. Each one of the authors has eagerly expressed their desire to share their writings with the community. We believe there is something truly meaningful, educational, and inspirational for everyone in this collection.
On behalf of all of the authors and the rest of the team, we are delighted to present to you The Kodesh Press Passover Reader. Happy Passover!
With hopes for complete refuah for everyone who needs it and better times ahead for all.
