The book of Bereishit can be read a book of dysfunctional relationships—and attempts to heal them. Starting with the fractured relationship between God and humankind in the Garden of Eden, running through to the relationship with Joseph and his brothers, the book of Bereishit is replete with stories of dysfunction, maltreatment, and alienation. Yet it is also filled with gestures of repairing and rehabilitation—some of which are successful, and tragically some never get adequately resolved.

Rabbi Ari Kahn is a profound, original thinker and prolific author. He received his rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary where he studied with Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik. He graduated Yeshiva University with a BA in psychology and an MS degree in Talmud. He is Director of the Overseas Students Program at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, where he also is a senior lecturer in Jewish studies. He is the author of thirteen books, including Echoes of Eden, The Crowns on the Letters, and Explorations Expanded. Rabbi Kahn lives in Givat Ze’ev, Israel, with his wife Naomi.
